Fatal Chain-Reaction Long Island Expressway Crash: Woman ID'd As Victim In Suffolk County

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a chain-reaction crash on the Long Island Expressway.

It happened just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, in Yaphank.

A 65-year-old man from Bay Shore was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound near Exit 68, according to Suffolk County Police.

He had a female passenger on the back seat. 

The motorcycle hit the rear of a 2016 Lexus SUV, which had slowed down due to traffic. 

The Lexus then struck the rear of a 2019 Audi SUV.

The passenger in the Harley, Dawn Jimenez-Salta, age 60, of Garden City, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where she was pronounced dead. 

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. There were no other injuries.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Suffolk County PD Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
